Longford student takes first prize

AN article about the value of information has won the top prize in the Young Business Writer Awards

AN article about the value of information has won the top prize in the Young Business Writer Awards. The Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, presented the awards yesterday in a ceremony at Dublin City University.

The overall winner was a secondary school student, Ms Bernadette McKeon, of Scoil Mhuire in Longford. She won £750 for her article titled "In the society of the future, information will be primary resource for individuals and organisations."

At the ceremony the managing partner at Coopers & Lybrand, Mr Bill Cunningham, said he hoped the awards would provide a useful stepping stone to a rewarding and successful career.

Mr William Earley, managing partner of McCann Fitzgerald, solicitors, said they and Coopers would again sponsor the 1996/97 awards.

The entrants were asked to submit a 1,000 word article on one of four themes.

The runner up, Mr Colm Green, from St Joseph's Secondary in Co Tipperary, won £300.

The awards were jointly sponsored by accountants Coopers & Lybrand, solicitors, McCann Fitzgerald, organised by Dublin City University and supported by The Irish Times.
