Judgment against man over €1.3m farm loan

The Commercial Court has entered summary judgment against a man for €1

The Commercial Court has entered summary judgment against a man for €1.3 million over his failure to repay a loan for a farming enterprise.

James Doherty, Ballyrobin, Ferrybank, Waterford, did not appear and was not represented when Mr Justice Peter Kelly made the order against him yesterday on the application of AIB bank.

The judge said that having read the papers and in the circumstances where there was no appearance, he was satisfied to grant judgment to the bank.

In an affidavit, Pádraic Dundon of AIB, Michael Street, said it was the bank’s understanding Mr Doherty sold his livestock but the proceeds were kept by the mart, to whom he also owed money.
