FRENCH socialist premier Mr Lionel Jospin will not attend the G8 summit meeting of the world's top industrialised countries in Denver next week, his press service said.

Aides said his presence at the meeting was "not indispensable" and noted that, having just taken office he is busy with matters including the Amsterdam EU summit and preparing for a general policy statement on June 19th.
