An Irish electronic engineer has been appointed co-chairman of an international body defining standards for the next generation of high-speed multimedia connections between computers and peripherals, such as television sets, digital cameras and audio/video multimedia systems.

Mr Sean Killeen, principal engineer at Dublin-based Silicon Systems Ltd (SSL), is both co-chairman and editor of the US-based Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) task group charged with developing so-called IEEE 1394 standards.
