Irish firms pay an average of £3,500 each in rates each year, the Small Firms Association (SFA) has claimed. The association says commercial rates have more than doubled in the past 12 years and are proving an intolerable burden on firms. SFA director Mr Brendan Butler said the entire rating system must be changed.
