ICL's Information Technology Centre in Leopardstown, Co Dublin has completed, what they have described as, the "pioneering" first phase of a smart card scheme for Thames Valley University in the UK.

The ICL subsidiary, which opened in 1987, and employs a staff of 50, was approached by the university to develop a smart card system that would operate across its four campuses .

It contains a chip which carries university registration information and a picture of the student.
