Intel yesterday demonstrated a new generation microprocessor that will run at a speed of more than one gigahertz, or more than one billion cycles per second. The chip, code-named Willamette, is a new generation of the firm's 32-bit chip architecture and is expected to be the successor to its Pentium III line. In a demonstration yesterday the chip reached a clock speed of 1.5 gigahertz, almost twice as fast as Intel's fastest Pentium III chip.
