Insurer settles action

Scottish Provident Ireland has reached agreement with its former assistant general manager, Mr Martin Murray

Scottish Provident Ireland has reached agreement with its former assistant general manager, Mr Martin Murray. Mr Murray has resigned from his senior position with the life assurance company as of November 24th. The terms of his departure from Scottish Provident have not been disclosed. Last week, Mr Murray went to the High Court and obtained an interim injunction preventing Scottish Provident suspending him for him as assistant general manager (sales) - effectively the joint number two position in the company.

At that hearing, Mr Murray's counsel said that it appeared from correspondence in the case that the basis for his client's suspension was alleged interference in an internal inquiry. A spokesman for Scottish Provident declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding the dispute with Mr Murray or on the settlement.
