Mr Brendan McCabe has been appointed to the new position of deputy managing director at Independent Newspapers (Ireland). Mr McCabe would assist the company's managing director, Mr Gavin O'Reilly, as Independent moved its printing press to the Citywest plant next autumn, a spokesman said. Before the appointment, Mr McCabe worked as group advertisement director for the company. This position will be taken by Mr Joe Webb, Mr McCabe's former deputy.
