PROSPECTS of a hostile takeover bid for Bank of Scotland receded yesterday as life assurance group Standard Life said it had decided not to sell its large minority stake in the bank to one buyer.

Standard Life, which sparked speculation last month when it announced it was reviewing its ownership of the 32.2 per cent stake, said it planned to sell its shares across the market.
