CONGLOMERATE Hanson yesterday took a major step in its plans to split itself into four separate companies. Shareholders of the diversified industrial group gave their overwhelming backing to the planned hiving off of Imperial Tobacco Group and Millennium Chemicals. The decision at a special shareholder meeting is the first step in the group being split.
