COMMERCIAL Union yesterday reported a dramatic surge in business last year. "The group made excellent progress in 1996 with new life, pensions and investment sales growing by 25 per cent to £2.9 billion," said chief executive Mr John Carter. "There were very strong performances from our major operations together with substantial growth from our newer businesses."
