Eircom's Golden Pages online directory was attempting to correct data privacy violations before a deadline yesterday that would have forced its partial closure for the second time in six months.

The Data Protection Commissioner's office and Eircom agreed to suspend the Golden Pages personal finder section due to violations of the data protection act if the matter was not resolved by the close of business.

Visitors to the site could access the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all people resident on a particular street by typing in certain key strokes.
