The future, according to Microsoft, will bring consumers a dizzying array of new electronic gadgets that will seamlessly share digitally formatted information in the home, office and even the car.

Microsoft chairman Mr Bill Gates, in an address to delegates at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, said the world's largest software company was making rapid progress in its strategy of connecting people everywhere, all the time.

"The next five years are really going to be incredible."
