GENERAL Accident unveiled a £55 million sterling profits jump to £559 million last year after better British and overseas underwriting performances and investment gains.

The Perth-based insurer made an underwriting profit of £92 million which it said was the second best year ever in Britain. General Accident said both personal and commercial line insurance businesses operated profitably.
