Businesses are risking increased euro changeover costs by delaying their preparations until the introduction of the notes and coins on January 1st, 2002, Forfas said yesterday. The most recent survey carried out by the Business Awareness Campaign shows 41 per cent of firms "unsure" as to when they will adopt the euro as their base operating currency. Forfas warned that deferring the decision until the last moment would lead to increased competition among companies for essential services, most likely at premium rates, to assist with the changeover.
