The creation of the first international food safety standards for the retail industry was announced in Dublin yesterday at the international Food Business Forum by the chairman, Irish supermarket chief executive, Senator Feargal Quinn. The standards will cover consumer information and education, rapid alert systems and relations with national and international regulatory bodies. Mr Quinn said the initiative was to create a global set of voluntary and universally accepted standards for food safety, quality and security.
