Twenty-four Bank of Ireland staff are paid €400,000 or more, according to figures released by Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan.

Responding to a question from Sinn Féin finance spokesman Pearse Doherty, Mr Noonan revealed 193 staff in Bank of Ireland are paid more than €150,000 a year. Of these, 24 are paid €400,000 or more a year, 19 make between €300,000 and €399,000, 66 between €200,000 and €299,000, and 84 between €150,000 and €199,000. Mr Doherty pointed out 165 executives in both Bank of Ireland and AIB make over €200,000 a year, with 28 people in both banks making over €400,000.

Mr Noonan said the Government shared the outrage of the public regarding bankers’ pay and it was exploring all options to tackle the issue.
