DEPARTMENT stores will be one of the major winners from the boost in British retail spending being forecast over the next three years, a leading retail consultancy said yesterday. A new report, published by Verdict, said companies would be ideally placed to cater for the needs of those high spending consumers who will help drive forward the recovery. A key part of that recovery would be the extra money pouring into circulation from building society takeover bonanzas and maturing Tessa accounts.
