A BILLION dollar takeover of a British bottling company by Coca Cola was approved yesterday by European Union authorities.

EU Competition Commissioner Mr Karel Van Miert said Coca Cola's buyout of its partners in the bottling firm was cleared without conditions by the European Commission. Officials at the EU executive had earlier voiced concerns the acquisition would allow the US giant to abuse its dominant position in the sector.
