THE Economic and Social Research Institute has been appointed by the Government to carry out a study of the economic implications for Ireland of Economic and Monetary Union.

The appointment follows an invitation to consultants to tender for the study. Major interest groups are being invited to submit contributions to the ESRI, and the study will be overseen by an inter departmental steering group drawn from the main Departments and public sectors concerned. The report will be made available to the Department of Finance by the end of June and its findings will be made public.
