The ESB has denied that there was a potential conflict of interest in merging its power generation and electricity distribution businesses in a new management structure.

The company yesterday restructured its senior management in a move aimed at preparing for increased competition in the newly deregulated electricity market. There will be three business units: Irish Electricity; Engineering and Commercial; and International Investments.
