East Digifone has called on the Government to move quickly to appoint an independent telecommunications regulator. In a statement yesterday, chief executive Mr Barry Maloney said the appointment was already overdue.

The Minister for Communications, Mr Lowry, has said an independent regulator would be appointed in 1997. The company has also criticised Government proposals to cap the price of Telecom Eireann's retail tarrifs.
