ESAT Telecom said last night it would charge 10 per cent less for calls to Esat Digifone (086) mobile telephone numbers than to Eircell (087) numbers. The company also unveiled a range of new services, including a package for hotels, and savings on ISDN rates. A spokesman said Fiat did not see the preferential rate for calls to Digifone, which is 40 per cent owned by Esat Telecom, as a matter for the new telecommunications regulator. The firm would have no problem with Telecom Eireann offering a similar reduction on calls to Eircell customers.
