Diamond exploration firm Karelian has announced positive results from a sampling programme at its Riihivaara target in eastern Finland which point towards the existence of a diamoniferous kimberlite pipe in the area.

The programme resulted in the discovery of 12 garnet indicator minerals, which are used to locate kimberlite, a type of volcanic rock which can contain diamonds. Chairman Richard Conroy welcomed the "positive indicators".
