BORD NA Móna has invited expressions of interest from telecommunication companies with a view to optimising the commercial value of its landholding.

The semi-State firm, which already has mobile masts on its land, hopes to engage with experienced mobile phone operators who are in a position to develop telecommunications infrastructure on its sites.

Bord na Móna owns 80,000 hectares of peat land and already has a number of contracts in place with telecommunications companies relating to land use.

Despite issuing this invitation to tender, Bord na Móna said in a statement that there are no current plans for any development in this area in the immediate future.

“Furthermore, any potential plans will be subject to Bord na Móna’s commitment to sustainable business practices and normal planning regulations and directives,” it said.
