TALKS between London Electricity and an American power giant that could lead to a takeover bid for the UK regional electricity company have broken down, it emerged yesterday. Energy Corporation confirmed "exploratory discussions" had taken place but had now "discontinued", in a statement issued in response to British press speculation. A company spokesman, Mr Patrick Sweeney, said: "As we have consistently stated, we continue to evaluate attractive markers and investment opportunities worldwide and consider the UK electricity market to be in that category."
