Eircell has launched a pre-paid mobile phone with wireless application protocol (WAP) capability. The company claims it is the first pre-paid service in Europe which has WAP capability.

Mr Stephen Brewer, chief executive of Eircell said the new phone would make this technology more accessible to large numbers of people and reduce the risk of a digital divide.
