Market researchers estimate eight million users worldwide will use Internet telephony by the year 2002, costing telephone companies $1 billion in lost revenue, according to a report in InfoWorld Electric. Speaking at a Gartner Group conference in Paris this week, Mr John Lilley, a Dataquest analyst specialising in European telecommunications, said he expected half the market will be computer to computer Internet telephony.
