Production in Ireland's manufacturing industries rose marginally in the year to February 2011, new data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed.

The annual figure rose by 0.2 per cent over the year, with a decline in the production of food and computer products weighing on the index. Turnover rose by 5.9 per cent over the 12-month period.

Production in the modern sector, which includes high-technology and chemical sectors, fell by 0.8 per cent year on year, while the traditional sector recorded a 0.6 per cnet rise.

On a monthly basis, production fell by 2.3 per cent compared to January, while turnover was down 2.9 per cent.

For the three months to February 2011, production was 0.4 per cent higher than the preceding quarter, and turnover was down 0.2 per cent.
