Direct sellers seek improved profile

Door-to-door, or direct, selling is still popular among consumers in some areas

Door-to-door, or direct, selling is still popular among consumers in some areas. In an effort to improve its profile, the Direct Selling Association of Ireland has published a new Consumer Guide to Home Shopping.

The booklet includes details of the association's code of practice which says members cannot use misleading, deceptive or unfair practices or advertising. Salespeople must give clear and accurate information and honest answers, and provide money back guarantees on products.

Consumers are advised to check the identity of all sellers and not to sign any documents if they are unsure of the person's company or identity.
