Dell Computer, the world's second largest personal computer maker which employs 5,600 people in the Republic, last night said fourth-quarter net profits grew 3 per cent to $436 million (€442 million), in line with previously lowered expectations.

Dell said its profit growth was slowed by parts shortages and a sales slowdown tied to Year 200 fears.
