British raise interest rates

The Bank of England has raised a key interest rate by a quarter percentage point to 6 per cent.

The increase in the repo rate had been widely anticipated by the markets. It was its fourth interest rate rise in six months.

The move came a week after the US Federal Reserve and European Central Bank raised rates amid a resurgence of global inflationary pressures.
