BlackBerry owners will soon be able to download music wirelessly thanks to an application that will help the smartphone maker compete with those made by Apple and Nokia.

A UK-based music download provider, 7Digital, will launch a service in September that lets owners buy songs and albums direct from their handsets.

Research in Motion, the manufacturer of BlackBerrys, is making a big push beyond its traditional business customers into the consumer market, where it will compete with its rivals, Nokia’s N97 and Apple’s iPhone. – Copyright The Financial Times Limited 2009
