PRICE Waterhouse partner Ray Gray told yesterday's ITIC conference that the early starters for EMU membership are currently thought to be Belgium, Austria, France, Finland, Luxembourg, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany - known collectively by the acronym "BAFFLING".

Less certain are Italy, Spain and Portugal - known, to their collective displeasure - as the Club Med countries.
