Science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, considered the father of geostationary orbit, now has a satellite named after him.

The European Telecommunications Satellite Organization dedicated its latest satellite to British-born Clarke in recognition of his pioneering role in the development of global communications networks, the author's office in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo said in a statement.

The satellite will be used for a full range of services, including data and video broadcast and Internet access, from June.
