A New York-based Internet company specialising in promoting Irish arts and literature online is generating considerable investor interest in its bid to raise $2.5 million (€2.4 million) in venture capital funding.

Artshapes.com is understood to be in talks with Irish investment company, Dolmen Butler Briscoe and several other institutional and private investors are also believed to be talking to the company.

Artshapes.com was founded by Irish entrepreneur Mr Gerard Power early last year. It trades high-quality Irish arts and crafts online, and is nurturing an online community focusing on the Irish arts and literature scene.

Last month Artshapes.com was reported to be embarking on a partnership arrangement with 1800 Flowers.com, the successful online gift order website. However, industry sources indicate an outright acquisition of Artshapes.com has not been ruled out.

BBC website BBCAmerica.com has also closed a deal with Artshapes.com for it to operate as its e-commerce vendor for its upcoming Irish season. Under the arrangement Artshapes.com will promote Irish products and online discussions through the BBCAmerica.com site.
