The three executive directors of Abbey, the housebuilder, increased their basic remuneration from £306,000 (average £102,000) in 1995/6 to £347,000 (£116,000) in 1996/7. Pension contributions rose from £44,000 to £168,000 while benefits in kind increased from £16,000 to £26,000.
